Swift Vets made easy

I've not really followed the whole controversy over John Kerry and the Swift Boat hubub, partly because it seems to me that at least Kerry actually went to Vietnam and faced bullets while many of his contempararies were running for cover (see both George W. and Bill Clinton). And I accept that Kerry made his Vietnam service a big part of his campaign, but I would have thought most people were more interested in what both he and George W. are going to do about the war on terror, the deficit, jobs, the environment, oil and the myriad other challenges facing America right now. You know, living in the present rather than the past and all that. After all, if American voters were worried about moral integrity, Bill Clinton would be flipping burgers in downtown Little Rock rather than plugging his book.

Anyhow, Bill has finally got around to using his blog for good, by explaining the whole Swift Boat thing. Now it still doesn't make any sense but at least you can have a laugh (and for a change it's with Bill, not at Bill).

No one knows what Kerry will do about those things, because Kerry has refused to talk about them, responding to every question, quite literally, with "when I was in Vietnam."

Okay, John, you want to talk about Vietnam, let's talk about Vietnam bitch.

He also bragged that, if anyone wanted to question his record they should "bring it on".

Okay. Here it is.

Now, suddenly, he's staggering around the ring holding his belly and waiving his arms like Roberto Duran, crying "no mas, no mas"

Just wanted to point out that at the time Bush joined the National Guard and volunteered for flying, pilots from his unit were being sent to Vietnam on a regular basis. Kerry tried to get a deferment, failed, volunteered for the pansiest Navy assignment in Vietnam he could get, which unfortunately turned into more hazardous duty than he wished.

As a former servicemember, I knew the minute Kerry started pushing the heroism he was a warrior wannabe. If you are one, you don't need to TALK about it. Although I am an independent, his conduct in this one area has caused me to question his ability and character. He comes across as a real opportunist.
