Perks and charity

If you only give to one Breast Cancer 3 Day 60 mile walk this year, make it this one. Its being done by Reader of the Year Paul and he strongly deserves your support - he's going to walk 60 miles and you are going to open your wallet a little to help fund breast cancer research, education, screenings and treatment.

It's just another perk of being Reader of the Year. Please donate and spread the word.

While you're spreading the love, Jim's set up a new blog to highlight some of his excellent creative writing from his excellent creative brain. Protomonkey is worth a visit. Try the FAQ for a taster, including the origin of the phrase "spank my muse".

He has no blog. Poor, deluded man.

That explains why he supports only one breast..

It's this kind of deliberate ambiguity that has kept this blog going from strength to strength. I think.

like the use of thelast 2 words. Does it hurt!

Yes it's shocking but true. I have no blog. I figure if I can't clear the bar that Simon has set why bother.

Feel free to poke around my Fotolog here and see if I have a face you can trust. I do hang out with Aussies from time to time so that may skew your opinion of me. And probably not in a good way.

Thanks again Simon for putting my message out to the tens of readers you get daily. Cheers mate!

On September 7, ESPN will help The V Foundation for Cancer Research launch the inaugural national "Show Your Spirit Day!" The concept is simple. Fans have fun and wear their favorite teams' apparel to work that day (or thereabouts) and in exchange make a donation of $5.00 (or more) to The V Foundation for Cancer Research. Over the last five years, no less than 83 cents of every dollar raised has been designated to cancer research. For this "Show Your Spirit" campaign, 100 percent of the donations will go directly to fund research grants.

Cancer touches the lives of most families. Most of you recall Jim Valvano's passionate plea at the ESPY Awards in 1993 that we need to do more to save lives - our family members, our children's children. "Don't give up...Don't ever give up!" Imagine the impact for cancer research, if millions of fans banded together and took these small steps.

For more information, please log on to www.jimmyv.org and click on "Show Your Spirit."
