Low IQs

Some Americans are stupid. Advertisments like this prove it. America is the only nation that has to have 4 years of college to get students up to standard to enter university. Students in countries such as the UK and Australia are able to jump straight in. I guess we're much smarter than Americans, with very few exceptions.

PS: If anyone knows how to get in touch with Cracker Barrel Philosopher and make him aware of the great Munuviana invitational please let me know.

Not necessarily stupid, Simon, just ignorant. A lot of people don't understand that getting that pair of Dockers at Wal-Mart for $15 can only happen if they're made somewhere that doesn't have workers being paid $15 to make a pair of pants.

The challenging party (no matter who it is) will use that add againt the incumbent party during every election because jobs move overseas constantly regardless of who's in office. It's a freebie.

talk of which, singaporean students must sit for an ESL test in order to qualify for universities in the U S of A. in spite of documentary proofs from the UK that English is our *first* language, and medium of instruction.

heh. maybe they don't quite understand the Queen's English after all. or that they are in a perpetual state of denial that people from the far east comprehend english as well as they do.or even better.

Bre: why are you writing comments on blogs at 1:40am?

Jim: it was a gross generalisation. Obviously Munuvians are exempt.

What a day. First I was called "a Communist" by a member of the Chinese Communist Party and now "stupid" by an Australian. I'm waiting for the talking toad to stop by and call me ugly. ;-)

As an American lawyer, Conrad, toads shouldn't be hard to come by. ;-)

"It's populist politics at its most unattractive."

This is a facet of every election everywhere. We're in the telecommunications age and the sound byte has brought populist politics to the fore (It was never far from it anyway). Americans are not behind the curve on this, however. We're ahead of it. What you see happening in America today is what you will see in 15 years or so in most other parts of the world.

Want some more "populist politics at its most unattractive"? This sentiment: "I guess we're much smarter than Americans, with very few exceptions."

Rob: some of my best readers are Americans. There's obviously some smart ones. It was a gross generalisation which is what blogging is all about.

As for populist politics, I refer you to Gore, Al and the 2000 election. It didn't seem to work too well then. Likewise in my home country of Australia the opposition leader is in all sorts of hot water for promising to bring Aussie troops back from Iraq if he wins office - a populist position that didn't work because most Aussies want to see the job done.

FYI, when an American says "college" he means university. Nobody goes to college before they go to university. That makes no sense whatsoever to an American. I guess you are just not that smart. Or are you just jealous that 90% of the world's top universities are in the United States?

Simon:

First rule of holes: When in one, stop digging.

Your college/university error was pointed out.

And this:

"As for populist politics, I refer you to Gore, Al and the 2000 election. It didn't seem to work too well then."

1) Gore wasn't elected which maybe proves that a good many Americans saw through the populist silliness. However, his opponent was quite guilty of populist rhetoric, too.

2) Gore got more votes than Bush so maybe there's something to that populist brand of politics.

That said, some Americans are stupid for the same reason some Australians, some Germans, or some Hungarians are stupid. Law of averages.

Last word is yours.
