Email chains
Almost worse than spam is the daily round of emails from friends proclaiming "Read this" or something similar. Sure enough this morning the following (in disturbingly large font) was sitting in the inbox (I've removed the inordinate amount of lines): One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd."It then goes on to tell you to clutter everyone's mailboxes by sending this to 10 people because it's National Spam Week. Tom's reply to the group email: I think we've all probably caused a suicide or two in our life.posted by Simon on 03.18.04 at 08:54 AM in the

Now I'm pissed. I read that whole thing waiting to find out what the thing with the books was. So what the hell is it? Was he freaking suicidal every damn day of high school? Why the entire load of books every bloody day? I feel cheated. I need closure. posted by: Jim on 03.18.04 at 11:52 AM [permalink]He was carrying the books only once -- on Monday, probably to put them back into his locker after deciding not to kill himself. posted by: anonymous on 03.23.04 at 08:12 AM [permalink]I have never thought about helping someone I really didnt notcie before. I am one of the most popular girls in school and we have a lot of clicks like geeks, nerds, etc. This story changed the way I thought about people. Like how I treat them and how I should talk to those kind of people more. Thanks! posted by: Sara on 09.04.04 at 09:44 AM [permalink] |
