It seems that Singapore just can't bear to miss out on something that Hong Kong (well, Macau) already has. When will Singapore give up and admit it will never be Hong Kong?

why would singapore want to be hk? hk is only a sar while singapore is a nation.

singapore has museums but that does not mean she wants to be london.

hk should kowtow to beijing, be a good little sar like macau, give up and admit it will never be singapore.

the government are adamant in having casinos - reversing a donkey's years' ban on it - over here is that alot of singaporeans are spending a fortune at casinos overseas, especially genting highlands in malaysia, batam island and cruise ships.

which the government are not too delighted about given the potential taxes casino generates. and lining their own pockets also.

i must add that singaporeans abhor and even "protest" in the newspapers due to the potential social ills gambling brings, but as per the usual, do the government ever care? their line of defence are:
- regional tourists may come here as an alternative venue
- it means more "jobs" for dozens of unemployed peasants

whatever, we all are anticipating some really huge chronic social problems befalling this island.

can't understand some people. complain day in day out about the government molly coddling singaporeans and here crying that the sky is falling coz temptation in the form of a casino is put in front of weak willed public.

grow up for goodness sake. in fact, the likely restrictions (e.g. no entry or limited access to singaporeans) that will be thought up by the government "scholars" to "protect" the public will by decried by some as an insult to them.

you just can't please all the people all the time.
