Questions to ask

1. Where do you live?
2. How many kids do you have?
3. Where do they go to school?

OK, now tell me all about this car you're selling.

The questions I get from HKers and Mainlanders (friends of the wifes relatives usually):
1. What do you do?
2. How much money do you make?
3. How much did your house cost?

Note that it is not 'how much is your house worth?'.....

Sorry, nearly forgot. Question 2 is usually followed by 'you could make more money in Hong Kong...' which demonstrates a complete lack of understanding as to what a 'Unix System Administrator' does.

and i thought only singaporean busybodies ask such questions? maybe it's the dna in them, ie: ethnic chinese.

try interrogate them same questions and see how they react. or better still, throw back that particular question instead of replying them. if they look mighty offended - which they will definitely - grin at them with, "isn't it fair i ask you same?"

i didn't give a damn that they called me rude - duh?! to which i retort, "heh pot calling the kettle black." that sure shut them up.

What I was meant to allude to was that certain connections to certain Triads meant that you weren't going to get any bullsh!t once you had those three pieces of information. That said both your comments ring true. It's not who you are, it's what you make that counts.
