Reasoning

Having finally got around to watching "Bowling for Columbine", Mike Moore's mess of a documentary about guns, fear and America, it is interesting to read the real reasons behind the Columbine shooting. Certainly it chips away at Moore's use of Columbine as a microcosm of all that ails modern America. Well worth taking the time to read the whole thing.

Standing in the way of the media's portrayal previous to this was some denial, obviously, that children can focus their thoughts this way.

But I don't think this analysis leaves no room for Moore's sometimes-accurate depiction of American gun culture.

If you bring up a kid in an environment where violence is condoned and excused, that's a passive nurturing motion to his innate/cultivated condition.

It's like that with smokers, right? Like, if you don't tell them to quit, or give them negation about their habit, then you are unaware of the damage they are doing to you and to themselves if it continues.

Smoking is not just like psychopathology, but I'm trying to make the point here that it's not solely the individual's condition.

I watched that on Saturday night, too. While I understand that it was slanted, biased, and a bit of propoganda, quite a bit of it struck home with me.

My people are afraid. I was, too. Still am-I'm a fanatic about locking doors, alarms, etc.

I rather liked the film, sentiments aside. But the video of the boys moving through the cafeteria? Oh yeah. That's going to be haunting me for a long time.
