The unlinkable SCMP has gone and looked at Deng Xiapong's full comments on democracy in Hong Kong. The details are in the extended entry. Interestingly enough it seems ol' Deng wasn't quite the anti-democrat his compatriots and Xinhua are making him out to be. That's the problem for China - they keep twisting until facts fit the ideology.

Deng was a visionary. Had it not been for him, China would still be a very poor and backward country.

Creating SEZ (Special Economic Zones) or rather capitalist zones, was his idea and Shenzhen was one of the first such zone.

Majority of China's (current) success first flowed through Shenzhen, then on to Guangdong and later all over.

Is it perhaps too ironic to point out to China Central Government that they should instead be "finding truth from facts?"

Or, is that what they think they are doing?
