My Simon's big idea

You can tell a writer is getting lazy when suddenly they change from writing in one person or tense to another. Here I go then.

Simon has had an idea. With the rapid approach of the festive season (Chunukah, possibly also Christmas) I think it is time to organise a Hong Kong blogging community piss up get together. I think it needs to be in the next few weeks. I suggest a date such as Wednesday, November 26th (as the following day is US Thanksgiving it means Simon's work will be quiet) although this is open to negotiation. Venue to be decided.

Participation open to all HK bloggers and readers and those passing through. That way those who wish to remain annonymous can come along and pretend they are Bruce instead of Shaky Kaiser. I'm using Hemlock's guide for the list as it stands, but anyone else is welcome to join in too.

Invitee blogs:
Hemlock
Gwielo Diaries
Shaky Kaiser
Flying Chair
Batgung
BWG
Misohoni
See Lai
Glutter
Byoi
UKJoe
Madame Shutterfly
Nekkid Ben
Eyal
GekkaNNa

Plus any reads of these blogs and any bloggers passing through Hong Kong at this time and of course all the readers.

Please let Simon know in the comments if this is a goer. Also please pass the word and we can make it happen. At worst it will give us all plenty of blogging material apart from the SCMP.

Great idea!

Will comment more as I am rushing out... and yes as far as I am concerned.

Cheers!

Great but what if you all don't talk to one another? If we all turn out to be antisocial nerds facing the wall (excepting you of course)?

posted by: Virginia on 11.10.03 at 11:42 PM [permalink]

Shit. That means you will find out my incognito!!! That I sound like a dumb girl and prances around and hugs everyone in too high heels and too tight tops rather than the dark, depressed, ranting, anarchist chick I am behind the computer. I have to think about this. I won't be able to get away pretending to be BRUCE you know? And I look 24. The last time I went to meet a bunch of people in a mailing list, everyone went, "YOU! You are Nailvarnish? You're cute like a floppy puppy dog? What the fuck?" At least I chain smoke... I have NO mystique in real life. I have to THINK about this.

Ah yeah. You can count me in. I laugh a lot, and have fun. I'm not that anti-social.

I would be up for some light wine tasting, followed by some assessment of scotch or fine whiskies.

Great, so there's at least four of us. Just look for the group of people all staring at the wall.

Any ideas for location? I'm thinking somewhere in LKF.

Nah - let's go to Fenwick then we can include Conrad.

posted by: Phil on 11.11.03 at 11:13 AM [permalink]

Heh. Indeed.

In fact until 10 minutes ago I was unaware of Fenwick's but I've been briefed. It sounds suitable for the "post-conference" party.

posted by: Simon on 11.11.03 at 01:55 PM [permalink]

sounds great. count me in.

Okay, I bite. Fenwick's?

posted by: d fresh on 11.11.03 at 08:25 PM [permalink]

Simon, you need to fix your bloody cookies - I am suffering what I made people go through on my site before I rebuilt it!

It is not fair - shourld only happen to other people.

Anyway, Fenwicks is most certainly the afterwards place. Not the before.

I would say it depends upon the night. Because the important question concerns which place has what happy hour.

Eek - feeling dizzy. Opened a bottle of red wine and then remembered I was home alone. Had to finish it.

As long as there is space behind me so I can fall over without disturbing anyone I will be fine.

posted by: Phil on 11.11.03 at 10:50 PM [permalink]

I wish I could make it... but it's a long trip from NYC, on relatively short notice. I've never even been to HK, but I've been sucked into the HK blogging sphere via the Gweilo Diaries.

posted by: Random Reader on 11.12.03 at 05:48 AM [permalink]

Can I be very lazy and use this space to make an announcement? As many HK bloggers are here.

The link a lot of you have is actually directed to the "Glutter's Hong Kong" Category. Which is what Hemlock has on his site.

The Proper homepage URL is http://glutter.typepad.com

Which is fine if that's what you prefer, but if you want the full site. It's the one above.

Sorry about this.

I am still thinking...

I can see it now, BWG attired in kung fu regalia, bearing a sword; Phil, appropos of his recent pact with the Devil Alliance, sprouting horns and a pitchfork; Simon with wife, kids and dog in tow; Shaky, in a corner, being berated by a drug-addled Flipper; Ron, talking bollocks at great length; Misohoni, decked out in lime green pants and a purple shirt; AnnaBanana, chatting away while the rest scratch their heads and mutter "what the fuck did she say"; Preston Whip, whereabouts unknown; Hemlock, entirely too above it all to mingle with such riff-raff; and Me, wickedly handsome, anonymous and intent on suducing UKJoe.

posted by: Conrad on 11.12.03 at 12:34 PM [permalink]

Or "seducing" . . . whichever.

Phil: working on the cookies thing...still trying to find an MT fix for it.

I think Conrad summed the night up nicely. It all looks a goer, we just need to find the right venue. When I get some time I'll ring a few of the LKF bars and find out what "deals" we can do, plus which have the nicest wallpaper for us to all stare at.

posted by: Simon on 11.12.03 at 03:51 PM [permalink]

Haha..I thought it would be me seducing Conrad by excessive juicy talk about my scandlous third pierced nipple. ;)

You still think it will happen Conrad?

posted by: ukjoe on 11.12.03 at 06:05 PM [permalink]

Simon, try upstairs at The Fong or Bar George in LKF.

UKJoe, now you've got me sufficiently intrigued to actually consider making an appearance.

posted by: Conrad on 11.12.03 at 09:19 PM [permalink]

Nipples are nipples, they never fail me in alluring my prey, and I have even got an extra one. I knew I will success!! I knew it.

posted by: ukjoe on 11.12.03 at 09:47 PM [permalink]

Sounds like it could be interesting - why not?

But Bar George? Enh.

posted by: nekkid on 11.13.03 at 12:50 AM [permalink]

Conrad,

It would be Shaky looking shocked and saying "but she said she was a virgin! And a girl!"

And Ron would be talking bollocks fluently in at least four languages.

posted by: dave on 11.13.03 at 01:51 AM [permalink]

Hold on Dave, it was Conrad, not me, who was duped (for a while anyway) by the katoey the other night! But yes, they still have me on the virgin or not question...

Fenwick's? Never heard of it.

posted by: shaky on 11.13.03 at 06:10 AM [permalink]

Sounds good, I'll bookmark this page in case of any changes.

posted by: Giles on 11.13.03 at 12:08 PM [permalink]

Shaky, you've really never heard of Fenwick? Jesus, and your personal life is unruly mess already. It's frightening to think what's havoc a night in Fenwick could accomplish,

posted by: Conrad on 11.13.03 at 03:57 PM [permalink]

'twas in jest. Fenwick's is really the reason for all the mess.

posted by: shaky on 11.14.03 at 12:20 AM [permalink]

If we go to Fenwick's I need time to grow my hair back so no one recognises me.

I'm fine with anywhere that has a bar that needs holding up.

Good thought for the rules. I will bring my camera and if anyone is in shot I will blur far beyond recognition anyone's faces that require said treatment.

That might not just be because they are anonymous.

God help us

Are you guys going to do anything fun around X'mas time in HK? I will be in HK and would like to join your guys:D

I am a Chinese blogger living in Los Angeles. My friends in weciti.com referred me here:)

posted by: sophie on 11.14.03 at 06:50 AM [permalink]

Hello all;

It's a clever idea, Simon, and I appreciate the invite, but I really do wish to remain anonymous -- I can assure you that if I turned up, there would be little chance of passing myself off as 'a very tall reader of HK blogs', if you see what I mean!

Also, Conrad would recognize us anyway because we'd be the ones who'd absent-mindedly brought along dirty nappies, and who'd be humming 'the wheels on the bus' all night.

Anyway, best regards to all, and have a blogalicious time. I'll look forward to reading the dueling write-ups once it's over.

Phil..no no. Keep it very very short...near bald, no matter where we go. :D Those stubble offer the strangest but very sensual feelings on our hands. Girls like to touch them. ...Weird, but true. Didn't I tell ya already?

Is BWG coming??

posted by: ukjoe on 11.14.03 at 11:08 AM [permalink]

I dun know - I'll ask.

I know Joe, I know how much you like to stroke my head.

Talking about bollocks or fuck ups, I have experienced a lot [lately].

Yes, it will be a very interesting night and yes, I promise to remain silent :-D

Just one question...

Can I bring 10 or 20 girls who have nothing to do with blogging?

posted by: Ron on 11.15.03 at 01:48 AM [permalink]

Of course Ron, but if we go to fenwicks get ready for a bitch fight - you know how the girls hate competition.

They have a pretty cool, but labrynthine system at work there.

Hmm. So where now? Is there like a time or place?

I guess I can come incognito. Talking about HK female nipples the only way you can tell it's really me is I have mine pierced. But I won't be showing it off in any out right way.
